I thought this was a very fair and thoughtful review, and downright poetic in its own right at times: https://freebeacon.com/culture/capitalism-baseball-community-and-loss/
Also, it is becoming pretty clear that many in the traditional “baseball media” are afraid to touch this book - I suspect out of fear of being seen as being too critical of MLB and losing access or otherwise facing adverse professional consequences. So to an extent it will be up to us to get the word out. To that end, please consider offering a rating or review to the Amazon link for it. And spread the word to family, friends, and local bookstores and libraries. Every little bit helps! Thank you!
I haven’t read the book yet, but the review certainly makes me want to read it. As a long time baseball fan I’ve moved away from the game. It looks like a story about what baseball was before all the speed up the game rules permeated the game. I haven’t gone to a MLB game in years but have been to several different minor league games that give the family feel I long for still.
That is a fantastic review. My much shorter one is at https://open.substack.com/pub/allsportsbookreviews/p/four-baseball-books-to-get-you-in?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=fusht
